Following Her Heart's Desire

For the woman who breaks paradigms: a playful touch, mixed with luxury … evoking the romance and majesty of a queen.
Méxican-born Katerine Bergengruen is a civil engineer by trade, yet her heart is seduced by the world of jewelry … …and she is fulfilling her creative desires as a result.
In 2003, Katerine began creating one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for limited collections and the well-known Uno de Uno through her company, Carambola. Directly translated, carambola means "cannon" in Spanish, and has a second meaning of "trick," as in the fascinating play of light glimmering from the Swarovski crystals used in her designs. Her engineering background influences her unique esthetic – consider the geometric designs made by those crystals within steel wire. Each of her pieces is considered a work of art.
Her first creations were exhibited in México in 2005, followed by a mention as one of "Eleven Jewel Manufactures with Style," published by ELLE magazine. In 2007, she won first place – and international recognition - in the professional category of Swarvoski's annual Create Your Style design contest with her stunning piece, "Torrente de Pasión."
In fact, Katerine is a certified member of Made with CRYSTALLIZED™-Swarvoski Elements and became a Create Your Style with CRYSTALLIZED™ -Swarovski Elements ambassador in 2009. With her art pieces, Katerine tells joyful stories by using crystals as her favorite characters, populating metallic forms and structures to convey glamour, beauty and soul.
Katerine's fresh and avant-garde style also translates to her jewelry collections designed for the contemporary woman who wants to stand out in an elegant way. Her pieces are favorites of on-air personalities on México's Televisa to the catwalks of fashion designers Hector Terrones and R.G. Sanchez to publications like BLINK and GLOW.
Available throughout Mexico as well as Europe and the USA later this year, Carambola is launching a colorful and inspirational new collection called, Collección Urive by Carambola, a design collaboration with Juan Carlos Urive, a famous abstract painter from Guadalajara, Jalisco, México.
